Japanese automaker Mazda Motor Corporation has announced an agreement with US electric car maker Tesla to use the North American Charging Standard (NACS) for its electric models in Japan.

Here's What We Know

According to Mazda's press release, NACS charging connectors will appear in the brand's electric vehicles from 2027. To charge at stations with other connector standards, adapters will be needed. According to the automaker, the decision to adopt Tesla's standard is aimed at providing convenience to customers. The latter will be able to use the Tesla Supercharger charging infrastructure.

By the way, Mazda is not the first Japanese carmaker to announce a switch to NACS. Last September, Sony Honda Mobility said it would use NACS in its AFEELA electric vehicles. The first production AFEELA models are due in the U.S. in 2025, and later in Japan.
