Sony seems to be changing its approach to the production of its flagship smartphones. The Japanese publication reports that the company has started to outsource the production of top models to third-party manufacturers.

Here's What We Know

Previously, Sony has already cooperated with contractors to create mid-budget devices, but now it is also applying to the premium segment.

According to the source, this is not a temporary solution but part of a long-term strategy. At Sony's official production sites in Thailand, smartphones are no longer mentioned among the active areas. Previously, the company had three key locations for phone production - two in Thailand and one in China - but now none of them are listed as smartphone manufacturers.

The first smartphone to be assembled by a third-party manufacturer is likely to be the recently launched Xperia 1 VII. Despite the change in approach, reviewers did not notice a deterioration in build quality - the device remained at the level of Sony's flagships of previous years.

This move is likely to help Sony cut costs and improve production efficiency, but it also calls into question the further development of the company's mobile division, which has remained small and generated limited profit in recent years.

Recently, Sony Xperia 1 VII debuted with new cameras, Snapdragon 8 Elite and a Walkman audio system. The new model has received several significant updates compared to the Xperia 1 VI. Xperia 1 VII also supports up to four OS updates and six years of security updates
