At the beginning of August, it became known that the head of the Diablo franchise Rod Fergusson left Blizzard Entertainment. He has a reputation as a highly professional crisis manager who joins various developers during the most difficult periods and helps to bring their projects out of production hell.

We were among the first to speculate that Fergusson will now take care of BioShock 4 rescue and this version was fully confirmed.

Here's What We Know

Rod Fergusson revealed on his social media accounts that he will now head up Cloud Chamber, a studio that 2K Games opened in 2019 specifically to develop the BioShock franchise.

The fourth instalment of the series has been in development since at least 2015 and it was recently revealed that 2K has demanded a complete rewrite of the storyline as the current version is going nowhere.

Fergusson once worked at 2K Games and helped bring BioShock Infinite to release, and now he's determined to do the same with BioShock 4, as well as overseeing the creation of the screen adaptation for Netflix

As some of you may have already guessed, I'm returning to 2K as the new head of the BioShock franchise to lead forward a series that means a lot to me. I'll be running Cloud Chamber and overseeing the development of the next BioShock, as well as franchise expansions such as the Netflix film in production.

While I'm excited to get to work in the coming weeks, I understand that restructuring the studio is a challenging time for the team. I'm deeply grateful for the work we've done, and I'm determined to create the kind of BioShock we'll be proud of and that our players will love.

In the meantime, we have a busy adaptation work ahead of us, and I look forward to sharing more details.

Unfortunately, such an assignment is rarely made without massive cuts and Cloud Chamber will not escape that fate. The process has already begun, it's not yet known how many employees will lose their jobs, but as we already know Cloud Chamber studio head Kelley Gilmore was sacked back in July and creative director Hogarth de la Plante has been transferred to the publishing division.
