The Blood of Dawnwalker's October patch adds New Game+, a Story difficulty, and camera fixes

The Blood of Dawnwalker launched on September 3 to strong reviews and hit 1 million copies sold in under 48 hours — a fast start for any studio, let alone one on its debut release. The Metacritic score of 83 puts it well clear of average, though it sits below the 92 that Witcher 3 earned in its day. Now, game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz has confirmed an October patch that tackles some of the most-complained-about friction points.

The patch

The October update brings four headline changes, per TheGamer. New Game+ is coming — it was meant to ship at launch but didn't make the cut. Tomaszkiewicz teased that repeat runs will surface new enemies, though he held back specifics. A new Story difficulty tier is also being added below the current easiest setting, after the team found that even the existing easy mode was tripping up a meaningful chunk of players.

The camera behavior after a stun hit is also being reworked. When an enemy stuns you, the camera currently auto-snaps to a different target — a deliberate design choice, but one that players have widely rejected. After the patch, the lock-on switch will only trigger after three consecutive hits instead. Finally, escape mechanics are getting an overhaul: according to Gaming Bible, a nav-mesh fix will make fleeing feel more viable, and aggressive wildlife will be toned down. Rebel Wolves admitted that testers never thought to run from enemies — only post-launch streams and reviews flagged the problem.

The performance question

Performance remains the stickiest issue. The game launched with weak PC frame rates and console targets of 30–40 FPS, prompting enough backlash that a 60 FPS mode was added shortly after. Tomaszkiewicz acknowledged the complaints but pushed back mildly: "People complain it's not 120, not 90, not 70… the game is about something else." He confirmed the team is continuing to work on optimisation. Enemy health pools are staying put — Tomaszkiewicz played through the game himself and is satisfied with the balance there.

What's next

Rebel Wolves hasn't set an exact date within October for the update. More details are promised closer to release. The game is available on PC via Steam and GOG, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S — and with a sequel already in early development, the studio has every incentive to keep the player base happy through the current game's rougher edges.
