Xiaomi has released an official statement about the product series name change
On the morning of August 24, gg reported that Xiaomi will no longer use the Mi branding in the names of its products. A few hours after that, the company released an official statement regarding the name change.
Formally, the manufacturer is not abandoning the brand, which has been around for a decade, but is renaming Mi to Xiaomi. Such a move will improve the perception between the brand and its products. But the company notes that it will take time to implement the change in all regions.
From the third quarter of 2021, the parent brand will combine two product lines: Xiaomi and Redmi. The first will offer premium devices that are "the pinnacle of the company's technological capabilities." The second will offer innovations at a low price. Moreover, the Redmi brand will be focused primarily on a young audience.
The experimental flagship Xiaomi Mix 4 became the debut smartphone without the prefix Mi in its name. Perhaps as early as September 15, models Xiaomi 11T instead of Xiaomi Mi 11T will be presented on the global market. In the future, the company intends to apply the new line naming concept to all products in the ecosystem.
