Windows 11 degrades AMD processor performance by 3-15%
AMD has officially confirmed the drop in performance of its processors in computers running the Windows 11 operating system.
What happened?
Microsoft's new version of the operating system may degrade the performance of all compatible chips in different usage scenarios. In workloads, performance is reduced by 3-5% and in cybersport games the drop can be as much as 15%.
AMD wrote about the problem on its official website. The company said it is launching work on a new version of the BIOS and that an update for Windows 11 will be released soon. The release of the software update is expected by the end of October.
The performance degradation is associated with a threefold increase in latency of the Level 3 cache and incorrect operation of the Collaborative Processor Performance Control. First of all it affects processors with more than eight cores and heat dissipation from 65W.
Performance degradation was recorded on all Windows 11 compatible chips. Their list includes Ryzen 3000, Ryzen 4000 and Ryzen 5000 models, EPYC server solutions and newer Athlon. The entire list is published on Microsoft's website.
