Last month Apple introduced a new model smartwatch - Watch Series 7. There were rumors that they be equipped with a glucometer, but this never  happened. Now the same new feature is attributed to the next generation.

What's known

According to a recent DigiTimes report, Apple suppliers are currently developing components for the sensors intended for the Apple Watch Series 8. These are infrared sensors commonly used in medicine that will allow users to measure glucose levels in blood.

The new sensors will likely be located on the back of the Apple Watch case. With them, users, especially those with diabetes, will be able to monitor blood sugar levels without additional equipment. However, how accurate the readings will be - is unclear, because already now Apple has encountered some problems. And not surprisingly, because usually you need a blood sample for analysis.

By the way, in iOS 15 app "Health" added indicators of glucose levels in blood as a health indicator. But for now you have to use external equipment for this and only enter the received data.

Thus, the Apple Watch may soon become a universal tool for monitoring health. For comparison, the first models could only track activity, and now the watch measures oxygen levels in blood, does EKG, determines user falls etc.
