Apple has fixed a bug that was breaking MacBooks and iMacs after installing macOS Monterey
Apple announced that it has resolved the problem with the macOS Monterey update and some Macs.
What's not
right? After the release of macOS Monterey, some users started complaining that their devices broke. The problem affected laptops and computers with Intel processors that were manufactured between 2017 and 2020. Here's their complete list:
- iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020)
- iMac
- Mac Pro (2019)
- Mac Pro (Rack, 2019)
- Mac mini (2018)
- MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2020)
- MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2019)
- MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2018)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, two Thunderbolt 3)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, four Thunderbolt 3)
- MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, two Thunderbolt 3)
- MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2019)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, four Thunderbolt 3)
- MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018, four Thunderbolt 3)
After installing macOS Monterey these models stopped starting. As it turns out, the problem is related to the firmware on the Apple T2 security chip, so it did not affect gadgets with branded M-series chips - they simply do not have a separate T2 chip.
The released update fixes this bug and prevents further failures. But users, who have already had their Mac broken because of this, will have to go to service center to get their device back to life.
