Intel has disabled DirectX 12 on Haswell graphics accelerators due to a serious vulnerability: list
Let's move from the news about successes of AMD to failures of Intel. The company has disabled support for DirectX 12 for a number of Haswell family processors. The company explained that this was a forced security measure taken after a serious vulnerability was disclosed. The graphics API is disabled for chips with Intel HD Graphics and with Intel Iris Pro Graphics using driver version 15.40.44.5107 or later.
The Haswell family includes Celeron, Pentium, Core and Xeon processors with two to 18 cores released between 2013 and 2015. Intel has also published a list of processors with DirectX 12 disabled, which includes the following chips:
- fourth-generation Intel Core processors with Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200
- fourth-generation Intel Core processors with Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5100
- fourth-generation Intel Core processors with Intel HD Graphics 5000/4600/4400/4200
- Pentium and Celeron processors with Intel HD Graphics based on fourth-generation Intel Core
Intel has published an official report stating that the reason for the DirectX 12 disabling is a disclosed vulnerability in Intel Graphics that allows process privileges to be increased in the operating system. Additionally, Intel will not offer an update to address the vulnerability without disabling DirectX 12.
Users who need DirectX 12 to work with any of the processors listed above, Intel recommends using the driver version 15.40.42.5063 or later.
