The US Air Force has deployed B-1B Lancer strategic bombers to the Middle East. The supersonic aircraft arrived in the region along with an Ohio-class nuclear-powered submarine.

Here's What We Know

The United States is trying to contain Iran, Hezbollah and Iranian proxies that are hostile to Israel. Already deployed to the Middle East are two aircraft carrier groups, USS Gerald R. Ford and Dwight D. Eisenhower, fourth-generation F-15E Strike Eagle and F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters, landing craft and A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft.

Last month, the US Air Force redeployed B-1B Lancer bombers from Dyess, Texas, to the UK. The strategic aircraft visited Turkey last week before arriving in the US Central Command area of responsibility.

The B-1B Lancer flew to the Middle East a day before Central Command officially announced the arrival of the Ohio-class nuclear submarine. The name of the submarine was not specified, but it is known to be a Tomahawk cruise missile vessel.
