China deploys tanks in the streets to protect banks from protesters
Chinese authorities decided to deploy tanks on the streets of Henan Province to protect banks from protesting citizens.
What we know
Citizens began protesting after Bank of China announced freezing of accounts due to a system upgrade. Customers of Yuzhou Xinminsheng Village Bank, Shangcai Huimin County Bank, Zhecheng Huanghuai Community Bank and New Oriental Country Bank of Kaifeng in Henan Province and Guzhen Xinhuaihe Village Bank in Anhui Province were affected.
The Chinese claim that this is the biggest banking crisis in recent years. Locals say about $6,000,000 ,000 has disappeared from deposits. Bank customers have rioted in the streets demanding access to their savings.
Authorities ask depositors to wait. At the same time they deployed tanks on the streets, which provide protection for the banks. Note that some customers with deposits up to $7400 were able to get their money back.
