Here's What We Know
This is our third news story about the same event. Initially, the US Central Command announced only the arrival of the Ohio-class nuclear submarine to the Middle East. Then it became known that it was an SSGN submarine, which is not armed with Trident II intercontinental ballistic missiles.
According to new information, the US Navy has deployed the submarine USS Florida (SSGN 728) to the Central Command area. It can carry up to 154 Tomahawk cruise missiles. It has a maximum launch range of approximately 2,500 kilometres.
For USS Florida (SSGN 728), this is the second visit to the Middle East since the beginning of 2023. In April, the Ohio-class nuclear-powered submarine crossed the Suez Canal and operated in the Red Sea.
