In February 2022, FromSoftware released Elden Ring, which caused a furor in the gaming industry.

The action-RPG from Hidetaka Miyazaki immediately received the highest critical acclaim and rave reviews from gamers. The end of the year summed it up: Elden Ring was not only the most highly-regarded game of 2022, but also broke the record for the most Game of the Year awards.

Here's What We Know

Previously, the record holder for the most awards was The Last of Us 2, which won 322 awards in 2020. Before that the record was held by the Polish hit The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from CD Projekt RED: in 2015, it was recognized as "Game of the Year" 30 times.

Elden Ring was named "Game of the Year" by 324 publications, portals, magazines, professional juries and user votes (from Gagadget editors: already 325 times, as the game won the Steam Awards 2022 vote last night). And that's not the final result yet, as the results will continue to be tallied in early 2023.
