The giant Chinese Long March 5B rocket terrified residents of Malaysia and Indonesia, who mistook the falling debris for a meteor shower.

What we know

The main stage of the Long March 5B weighed 25 tons. On July 30, debris from the rocket entered Earth's atmosphere over the Pacific Ocean. During the fall, up to 40% of the hull was burned, but the size of the debris was still enormous.

Some pieces of Long March 5B are 5 x 2 meters in size. They are found by residents of Indonesia and Malaysia. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties. China officially hides the location of the rocket's first stage debris.

Note that such incidents in our time can be called a wildness. The uncontrolled fall of large rockets is rare. Nowadays large main stages land in the ocean or on uninhabited islands.
