The company Shield AI conducted a test flight of the drone V-BAT.
What we know
V-BAT is a futuristic drone designed as an unmanned aerial system with vertical takeoff and landing. What makes the drone special is that it can take off and land like a SpaceX rocket, by using a single channel fan with a thrust vector.
The UAV can carry synthetic radar or electronic warfare, depending on the mission. The payload of the UAV is described as sufficient.
Shield AI launched V-BAT from the stealth destroyer of Zumwalt USS Michael Monsoor class (DDG 1001) as part of its latest test. The company plans to place a swarm of drones on every US and allied destroyer, aircraft carrier, amphibious and patrol ship.
