BAE Systems builds two strike and reconnaissance drones with jet engines and flight speeds up to 926.1 km/h
The company BAE Systems presented concepts of drones that can be used for strike and reconnaissance missions.
What we know
The manufacturer announced two drones. So far they are called UAS Concept 1 and UAS Concept 2. Both will be able to carry potentially destructive payloads and will have a top speed of 617.4 km/h (Mach 0.5) and 926.1 km/h (Mach 0.75) respectively.
Let's start with UAS Concept 1. It will get a jet engine and will be able to travel at an altitude of up to 9 km. The operation time will be 4 hours, and the maximum payload mass (sensors or ammunition) will be 40 kg. The developers plan to add support for the use of UAVs in a swarm.
UAS Concept 2 will weigh 3.5 tons and can carry a payload of up to 500 kg. The maximum flight altitude will be 12 km, and the operating time will be up to 5 hours. An airstrip will be needed to launch the drone.
The drone can be equipped with air-to-ground and air-to-air missiles. BAE Systems states that UAS Concept 2 can be supplied to the Navy.
