White House calls Russian Su-27 fighter pilot who shot down US MQ-9 Reaper drone over Black Sea an idiot
On 14 March, a US MQ-9 Reaper drone crashed in the Black Sea due to a clash with a Russian Su-27 fighter jet. The incident was again commented on by representatives of the US presidential administration.
Here's What We Know
A few days after the MQ-9 Reaper crashed, the US sent the Northrop Grumman RQ-4B Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicle to the Black Sea. It later became known that the US drones would continue to fly over the Black Sea, but the route would be changed.
In a parallel development, the Russian command decided to present an award to the Su-27 pilot who caused the US drone to crash into the sea. John Kirby, a White House spokesman, said he did not know of an army that would award the pilot who crashed the drone.
Kirby doesn't believe the pilot's actions can be construed as bravery. The official added that, on the contrary, the military is trained to avoid contracts with equipment in the air. John Kirby called the Russian pilot an idiot who put himself and American property at great risk.
