While the US Department of Defence is considering abandoning drone use altogether in the Black Sea, one drone has made another flight and approached the Russian border. It was Northrop Grumman's RQ-4B Global Hawk.

Here's What We Know

The drone flew from the Sigonella military base in Italy. It transited through Romania and headed towards the Russian Federation. Being about 150 km away from the Russian city of Sochi, the drone made several circles over the Black Sea and returned to Romania, where it is at the moment of writing.

The RQ-4B Global Hawk is a reconnaissance drone. It can carry out missions at night and daytime. For this purpose, there are optoelectronic, infrared and radar sensors on board. By the way, there has been one such drone in Singapore since January, and it takes off mostly at night.

Northrop Grumman's strategic drone is capable of speeds in excess of 500km/h. It has a maximum flight time of more than 30 hours.
