Spain deploys NASAMS SAM battery in Latvia due to possible escalation in Kaliningrad
NATO continues to strengthen its position in eastern Europe as a result of Russia's aggression against Ukraine and the conflict over the blockade of Kaliningrad.
What we know
To strengthen the defense capability of the Baltic region, Spain deployed an anti-aircraft missile system battery NASAMS in Lielvard. This was stated by the Latvian Ministry of Defense.
The department announced the formation of a brigade of international forces. Defense Minister Artis Pabriks stressed that the deployment of the surface-to-air missile system indicates that ensuring the country's security is part of NATO's plans. Along with the air defense system, 85 servicemen of the Spanish Armed Forces arrived in Latvia.
Recall that NASAMS may appear in Ukraine. USA already confirmed their plans for the purchase of anti-aircraft missile systems for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
