Ukraine passes HIMARS test and wants more long-range weapons - Defense Minister
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov gave an interview to the Wall Street Journal in which he spoke about the use of HIMARS and the lack of Western weapons.
What we know
According to Reznikov, Ukraine has passed the test for the use of U.S. multiple rocket launchers HIMARS. The Armed Forces have managed to convince Western partners that they will be able to use HIMARS to accurately hit enemy targets. After destroying a Russian air operations command center late last month, partners said Ukraine passed the test.
However, the Armed Forces need urgent supplies of Western weapons in large quantities. In particular, long-range equipment. The minister noted that the Russians use multiple-launch rocket systems, which hit at a distance of up to 120 kilometers. That is why Ukraine needs MLRSs capable of firing up to 150 kilometers.
As for HIMARS, on July 8, U.S. President Joe Biden agreed the transfer of four MLRSs. Thus, the total number of American rocket systems will increase to 12 units. In addition, the M270 MLRS and the European analogue in the form of MARS II will soon arrive in Ukraine.
