Diehl Defense unveils IRIS-T-SLS Mk III mobile surface-to-air missile system
Diehl Defense introduced the IRIS-T SLS Mk III self-propelled surface-to-air missile system.
What we know
IRIS-T SLS Mk III is a highly mobile air defense system that can fire on the move. The new system uses a guided missile IRIS-T in an anti-aircraft version that provides protection against a range of airborne threats.
The new system combines a combat control system, launcher and radar in a single vehicle. IRIS-T SLS Mk III is used to destroy helicopters, cruise missiles, anti-radar missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. The system got an improved rocket engine. The range of missile with high-explosive warhead is 12 km. The maximum altitude of target engagement is 6 km.
The vehicle EAGLE has first level ballistic protection according to STANAG 4569. The vehicle protects the crew from 7.62 mm small arms and artillery shell fragments.
