Ukrainian defenders use a very rare Russian T-80UK commander tank (video)
The 93rd Independent Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has shown a very rare Russian T-80UK command tank.
What we know
The T-80UK is a modification of the T-80U, which in turn is considered the main battle tank of the T-80 family. The vehicle pictured here was captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces about four months ago. It now helps the Ukrainian military to defend their land from the Russian occupiers.
The tank was adopted into service in the early 1990s. It has a number of features that the conventional T-80U cannot boast. For example, the TNA-4-3 navigation equipment, which is responsible for providing orientation in the terrain.
The T8-80UK is equipped with a R-163-50U UVK radio and an 18kW autonomous power unit. It provides power supply in case of main engine failure. The tank is fitted with the TShU-1 optronic suppression system for anti-tank guided missile guidance systems.
The changes do not end there. The T80-UK has an improved fire control system. It includes an improved 1G46-2 sight, thermal imager, capacitive wind sensor and a device for in-line alignment control of line of sight with the axis of the gun barrel.
