Ukraine needs 100 HIMARS and M270 MLRS to go on a counterattack - so far there are no more than 15 units
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov spoke about how many multiple rocket launchers the Armed Forces need to deter the Russian army and to launch a counteroffensive.
What we know
In an interview with Atlantic Council the minister said that the length of the front line in Ukraine is comparable to the distance between Barcelona and Warsaw - 2,500 km. The Ukrainian Armed Forces need about 50 multiple rocket launchers HIMARS and M270 MLRS.
Mr Reznikov stressed that the receipt of eight HIMARS MLRSs late last month made it possible to destroy approximately 30 command posts and ammunition depots on the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine in a few weeks. In the foreseeable future, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive even more Western rocket systems, but even the available MLRSs have significantly slowed the Russian army's offensive and reduced the intensity of shelling of Ukrainian positions.
50 units of M270 MLRS and M142 HIMARS will allow to repel the enemy, but the Armed Forces need about 100 multiple rocket launchers to effectively counterattack. According to official information, Ukraine has received three M270 MLRS and 12 M142 HIMARS. And it is not a fact that four units of HIMARS announced after the NATO summit have already arrived in our country.
