What we know
Lithuania is considering transferring command and staff vehicles M577 and APCs M113. Vilnius will also transfer to Ukraine additional ammunition and equipment needed for reserve training. According to Arvydas Anusauskas, the American armored personnel carrier M113 is becoming an important part of the AFU, and Lithuania has done much for it.
The American armored personnel carrier was developed in the late 1950s. The armored personnel carrier can carry up to 11 military personnel. M113 is built on a tracked chassis, has rolled aluminum armor, an 8-cylinder engine and is equipped with a machine gun M2 caliber 12.7 mm.
K577 is a command and control vehicle that is based on the armored personnel carrier M113. It is an American APC, but Lithuania bought it from Germany. In 2016, Lithuania bought 168 command and staff vehicles M577 for €1.6 million. An upgraded version M577 can be used to control self-propelled howitzers Panzerhaubitze 2000.
