U.S. sends aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, missile cruiser and guided-missile destroyer to Taiwan - China increases air power in response
Tensions over the Taiwan Strait continue to escalate. The U.S. is increasing its power in the region, and China is responding with the same.
What we know
According to the South China Morning Post, the United States has sent the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan and its strike group, which includes a missile cruiser and a destroyer with guided missiles, toward the Taiwan Strait. The United States is keeping the exact destination a secret for now, but if the course does not change, the ships will arrive exactly at the Taiwan Strait.
China is responding by building up its air power in the region. Authorities have not appreciated the desire of Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, to visit Taiwan. China could use fighter jets and ships to block the official's landing or intercept her plane.
