U.S. Army will receive 40 of the latest M109A7 self-propelled howitzers under a $299,000,000 contract

The U.S. Army has ordered another batch of advanced M109 artillery systems from BAE Systems.

What we know

The contract amount is $299,000,000. The agreement provides the delivery of the latest M109A7 self-propelled howitzers in an amount of 40 units, the M992A3 ammunition supply vehicle and spare parts. Including the contract signed five years ago, the total number of M109A7s and M99A3s will increase to 310 and the value of the deal will reach $1,900,000,000.

M109A7 is a new self-propelled artillery unit of 155 mm caliber. Compared to the M109A6 Paladin, the upgraded howitzer features an updated combat vehicle design with a new chassis, improved engine, transmission, suspension and control system. The unit also has increased survivability and boasts an improved charging system (semi-automatic).
