Fincantieri Marinette Marine began construction of the frigate USS Constellation (FFG 62) for the U.S. Navy.

Navsea publication writes about it. Production of the ship began August 31 at the shipyard in Marinette, Wisconsin. The USS Constellation (FFG 62) is part of the FFG(X) project. It will be the main frigate of the U.S. Navy's new class of warships. It is planned to be used to engage enemy ships, detect submarines, and support ship groups. The frigate will be able to carry out tasks in coastal waters and in the open ocean.

If everything goes according to plan, the USS Constellation (FFG 62) will be launched in 2025, and the U.S. Navy is going to hand it over at the end of 2026. Construction of the main ship is estimated at $1.28 billion. Subsequent frigates will cost less - $850-950 million per unit.

USS Constellation (FFG 62) will be able to carry up to 200 crewmen. As for armament, the frigate will be equipped with 57 mm MK 110 cannon, 32-section MK 41 vertical launch system, 16 naval strike missiles, MK 49 guided missile launch system, four MK 53 MOD 9 decoy launch systems, two shipboard AN-SLQ-32(V)6 REB systems, MH-60R Seahawk helicopter with UAV and Aegis Baseline 10 combat system.
