Sabrina Singh, Deputy Spokeswoman of the US Department of Defense, told during the briefing at the Pentagon that the Ukrainian military specialists are already being trained for work with the NASAMS systems. It should be completed in the near future, after which the SAMs will be handed over to Ukraine.
"The training program on these systems is ongoing, and as soon as it is completed, the systems will be ready for shipment to Ukraine. We expect that the training program will be completed in the near future," the Pentagon spokeswoman noted.
Earlier, the U.S. had promised to hand over the systems in early November. It is about two systems to destroy maneuvering targets at low and medium altitudes. The system was developed in the early 90s by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense with the participation of Raytheon. The SAM entered service with the Norwegian Armed Forces in 1994. AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles have a range of 20-40 km and maximum altitude of 20 km. The cost of one battery is about $65 million. By the way, one battery of NASAMS consists of six mobile missile launchers. In addition, the system has a vehicle for charging, target detection and maintenance of the complex.
