China simultaneously builds six Type 052D destroyers with guided tactical missiles and advanced radars
The Chinese People's Liberation Army may soon be replenished with six Type 052D destroyers.
What we know
The shipyard in the port city of Dalian, located in North China, is building five destroyers at once. An appropriate photo was posted by a Chinese user in the local social network Weibo. The sixth destroyer is being built at a shipyard northeast of Shanghai. At the same time, the Chinese Navy's fleet already includes 25 Type 052D and 052DL destroyers.
As can be seen, China does not intend to seriously slow down its destroyer production rate. Last year, eight ships were built, and a record was set three years ago when ten ships were launched. This is the fastest rate of construction of destroyers in the world.
The Type 052D destroyers are equipped with 64 vertical launcher cells for HHQ-9 surface-to-air missiles, YJ-18 cruise missiles and U-8 ASW torpedoes. The ships' arsenal includes 30mm CIWS H/PJ12 cannons, HQ-10 short-range air defenses and new radars.
