Brazil is seeking 36 self-propelled 155mm howitzers - choosing between ATMOS 2000, CAESAR and Archer
The Brazilian Army plans to purchase three dozen 155 mm self-propelled artillery systems on wheeled chassis.
What we know
Brazil wants to staff three artillery divisions that are currently undergoing rearmament. The army plans to buy 36 155mm howitzers that can destroy enemy targets at distances of up to 40 km with conventional and/or high-precision ammunition.
Public consultations have already begun and will continue until November 10, 2022. For nearly three months, Brazilian military representatives will study all options for the delivery of the weapon systems. As a result, Brazil will have to conclude two contracts for the supply of 34 combat howitzers and 2 artillery systems for familiarization and testing.
Archer / ATMOS 2000 / CAESAR
Brazil now has three main options. The first is the French Nexter CAESAR howitzer. The second is the Israeli-made ATMOS 2000 by Elbit Systems. The third is the Swedish-British Archer of BAY Systems.
