Slovakia will buy 76 Finnish Patria AMV armored personnel carriers at a cost of nearly €450 million

Finland will sell 76 Patria AMV armored personnel carriers manufactured by the Finnish company Patria to Slovakia. Deliveries are scheduled to start in the second half of 2023.

Here's What We Know

Slovakia's Defense Minister Jaroslav Nad' announced the signing of the agreement on August 31. The contract was signed between Slovak state company Konstrukta Defence and Finnish manufacturer Patria. In addition, a separate agreement was signed between Patria and the Slovak Ministry of Defence.

According to the terms of the deal, the first Patria AMV armoured personnel carrier will be delivered in September 2023. The total contract value was €447 million. The Slovak Minister of Defence stated that the agreement is very beneficial for the state and will provide the armed forces with important defence equipment.

The Patria AMV, also known as AMVXP, is a Finnish 8x8 multipurpose armored personnel carrier. The vehicle was developed in 2001 and production started in 2004. The APC has approximately 500hp, can reach speeds of up to 100 km/h and has a cruising range of up to 800 km on the highway.

The Patria AMV is equipped with a 30-mm cannon and a Turra-30 weapon module. The Finnish armored vehicle will be the basis for a new mechanized brigade to be formed in Slovakia in accordance with NATO standards.
