AM General received $733 million to produce Humvee in Expanded Capacity Vehicle for U.S. Army
The U.S. Army has signed a contract with AM General to produce Humvee vehicles.
Here's What We Know
The Humvee or HMMWV is a highly mobile, multi-purpose wheeled vehicle. AM General was awarded $733 million to produce the vehicles in the Expanded Capacity Vehicle (ECV) modification, which features improved brakes, suspension, cooling system and corrosion protection.
How many cars the U.S. Army will receive, is not specified at the moment. Work on the contract should be completed by the end of 2024. The vehicles will be used for reconnaissance, surveillance and other operations of the US Armed Forces.
Note that this year two U.S. military personnel were injured after their Humvee was involved in an accident. In addition, at the beginning of the summer one of the soldiers was killed during a training exercise. Because of this, the U.S. Army is investing $180 million to improve vehicle safety.
