Spain is planning to modernize some of its artillery systems. In particular, we are talking about the 155-mm M109 A5E self-propelled howitzer.

Here's What We Know

The upgrade of M109 A5E includes the installation of a new hybrid navigation system made in Spain. This system combines inertial navigation and GPS. This should increase the accuracy of aiming of the M109 A5E. The howitzer also receives new software and radar updates to hit moving and stationary targets more accurately.

In addition to the M109 A5E, the authorities intend to upgrade the SIAC towed gun. This is a relatively new Spanish 155mm howitzer. It was developed in 2002 and costs approximately $3 million. The artillery unit will have a new braking system, with €150,000 allocated for its development. It is noted that Spain is planning to upgrade the SIAC for coastal and military units.
