American F-22 Raptor fighters took part in an exercise in northern Australia. F-35 Lightning II aircraft of the Royal Australian Air Force were waiting for them there.

Here's What We Know

The United States sent six 5th-generation Raptor fighters to Australia, which were stationed at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii. They arrived at Royal Australian Air Force Tindal Air Base.

The F-22 Raptor took part in military exercise Pitch Black, which took place from Aug. 19 to Sept. 8. Defense News reporters visited Pitch Black, but could not learn the purpose of the participation of 5th-generation fighters in the exercise.

It is known that F-22 arrived in Australia under the Enhanced Air Cooperation program between the two countries. It provides the U.S. Air Force with access and additional training opportunities in Australia. The program also involves upgrading a number of military facilities in Australia, including Royal Air Force air bases Darwin and Tindal.
