The Ukrainian Armed Forces could potentially use ATACMS if the United States decides to provide operational-tactical ballistic missiles.

Here's What We Know

A few weeks ago it was reported that the US may have modified the HIMARS before it was sent to Ukraine so that the system could not use ATACMS missiles. How this was done is unknown. Also, the purpose is not entirely clear if the U.S. does not send ATACMS ballistic missiles to Ukraine anyway, and no one else but Washington can do it.

Nevertheless, even if the Ukrainian HIMARS do not really support ATACMS, the Ukrainian Defense Forces do have platforms capable of firing thick missiles. These are the French Lance-roquettes unitaire or simply LRU.

France has transferred two multiple launch rocket systems to Ukraine, which are a variation of the American M270 MLRS. It became known that the launcher modification and software are compatible with ATACMS ballistic missiles, which have a launch range of about 300 km.

Now the Ukrainian military uses GMLRS-class rockets, which can hit targets with high accuracy at a distance of about 80 km. In particular, the M31 with a 90 kg warhead and satellite navigation system.
