The Slovak Armed Forces have received a second Leopard 2A4 tank. Germany is sending the tanks as part of a circular exchange to replace the BMP-1s that were transferred to Ukraine.
Here's What We Know
Last year, the Slovak Ministry of Defence agreed to send 30 Soviet BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Instead, Slovakia will receive 15 German Leopard 2A4 tanks.
The first Leopard 2A4 arrived in Slovakia in mid-December 2022. Germany recently delivered the second tank. Another 13 combat vehicles will be handed over to Bratislava by the end of this year. Berlin is also supplying ammunition and communications equipment.
