US Special Operations Command will receive Sky Warden air support aircraft in October 2023
In mid-fall 2023, deliveries of the Sky Warder aircraft to the US Special Operations Forces will begin. In two years' time, a decision will be made regarding the launch of serial production.
Here's What We Know
Special Operations Command (SOCOM) announced late last summer that Sky Warden aircraft will be ordered as part of the Armed Overwatch program. Deliveries will begin in October this year.
The Sky Warden is an air support aircraft that will be able to operate in challenging environments. It is based on Air Tractor's AT-802U agricultural aircraft. It is the largest payload of any single-engine turboprop aircraft. It can carry a payload of up to 3,700 kg, half its total take-off weight.
Naturally, the platform will be upgraded to meet the needs of SOCOM and the requirements of Armed Overwatch. This is being handled by L3Harris. The company will equip the aircraft with advanced sensors for aerial surveillance. The Sky Warden will also be able to carry out spot strikes.
A total of 26 aircraft will be produced as part of the small-scale production, while SOCOM wants a total of 75 aircraft. Initial operational readiness is scheduled to be achieved by 2025. A decision on full-scale production will be made at that time. Reaching full combat readiness is scheduled for September 2029.
