US deploys two B-1B Lancer supersonic strategic bombers to Romania for exercise Air Defender 2023
An exercise of unprecedented scale, Air Defender 2023, has been launched in Europe this week. The exercise will involve B-1B Lancer supersonic bombers.
Here's What We Know
The US Air Force deployed four strategic aircraft to Europe late last month. The supersonic bombers initially arrived in the UK at a Royal Air Force base.
Two B-1B Lancer aircraft will take part in exercise Air Defender 2023. The US Air Force has stationed them at the Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base in Romania for this purpose. This was announced by the NATO Air Command.
The B-1B Lancer is a strategic bomber that stopped carrying nuclear weapons several years ago. Since crossing the Atlantic, the planes have been actively involved in all sorts of activities.
They managed to drop a few bombs in Latvia at the end of May, then flew over Bosnia and Herzegovina, and recently the US Air Force published a rare video of the AGM-158 JASSM missile launch. The B-1B Lancer also took part in the Arctic Challenge 2023 exercise in early June, flying over the world's largest aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford alongside F-35 fighters.
