Powerful explosions at the Russian airbase in Crimea - more than 20 planes were at the airfield
Russian media reported several explosions at an airbase in temporarily occupied Crimea. Numerous videos appeared in Telegram. Some of them contain profanity.
What we know
The airfield is located in the village of Novofedorovka near the town of Saki. Local residents reported hearing from 7 to 15 explosions. Some of them may have been caused by detonations. According to media reports, there were more than 20 military aircrafts and ammunition depots in the area.
Neither Ukraine nor Russia has yet officially commented on the situation. At the same time, Russian propagandists differ in their opinions. Some say the explosions were the result of "careless behavior with ammunition," denying a missile strike. Others claim that Ukraine launched missiles from Odessa. At the time of writing, two other opinios emerged - a fire during the transportation of fuel and sabotage.
We note that the distance to the nearest positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is approximately 225 km, and to Odessa - 270 km. In both cases the target is in the kill zone of American missiles Harpoon.
Viktor Andrusiv, a former advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, wrote that the airfield was hit by long-range missiles ATACMS with a launch range of up to 300 km. But this is too good to be true.
When I was writing this, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the explosions had been caused by the detonation of several aircraft munitions. There were no casualties.
