The Brazilian authorities continue to fight with Apple, trying to force it to start selling the iPhone 12 and newer smartphone models with a complete package, i.e. with a charger in the box.

Here's What We Know

Brazil's Justice Department ruled this fall that the lack of an adapter in the box harms customers. According to the regulator, Apple didn't provide enough evidence that eliminating the power adapter and reducing the size of the box would have a positive impact on the environment.

Apple, however, stands its ground. The American company, despite the multimillion-dollar fines, continued to sell smartphones in Brazil with a "truncated" set of accessories, i.e. without them at all. But authorities in the South American country also do not intend to retreat.

The Federal District Consumer Protection Regulator began confiscating smartphones from retail stores. It is already known about the seizure of several hundred models in the country's capital. Moreover, smartphones were confiscated from authorized resellers and stores of mobile operators.

Apple believes that the Justice Department is "abusing" its authority. Apple's Brazilian office has asked the country's government to allow the sale of smartphones until the end of legal proceedings.
