Brazil banned Apple from selling iPhones without a charger in the kit

The Brazilian Ministry of Justice banned Apple from selling smartphones without a charger in the box and fined the company.

Here's What We Know

Apple must pay a fine of $2.38 million. The ministry ordered the company to stop selling the iPhone 12 and newer smartphones, and to suspend sales of all models that come without a charger. The lack of an adapter is considered a deliberate discriminatory practice against consumers.

As you can see, Apple failed to convince the Brazilian authorities with the argument about concern for the environment. Recall that the company claimed that the main purpose of the abandonment of the charger was to reduce carbon emissions. The ministry found no evidence that the rejection of the adapter provides environmental protection.

Apple plans to appeal the decision. The company said it would work with Brazil's consumer protection agency. Representatives of the U.S. giant noted that several similar decisions in Brazil have already been made in favor of Apple.
