Brazil fined Apple $20 million for selling iPhones without power adapters

Brazil continues to fine Apple for selling smartphones without bundled chargers.

Here's What We Know

Last month, Brazil's Justice Department banned Apple from selling the iPhone 12 and newer models without a power adapter and fined the U.S. company nearly $2.4 million. A month later, the Cupertino-based manufacturer was fined again.

The Brazilian consumer organization has filed a lawsuit, which claims that users need to make an additional purchase in order for the Apple product to work. The U.S. company must pay nearly $20 million in damages. The court's decision is not final and can be appealed.

Flashback

Apple cites environmental concerns. The manufacturer began selling iPhones without a power adapter in the fall of 2020. Since then, many other companies have followed Apple's example.
