An experienced delivery service operator can easily pick up the best packaging to send a parcel, but not all eBay sellers have this useful skill. To make life easier for users, the online auction has added augmented reality mode to its application, which will help determine the size of the box.

How it works?

A new feature appeared in the latest update of the eBay client for Android. It is based on the ARCore Augmented Reality platform. The box selected by the user will be displayed on top of real objects, and the user just needs to make sure that the product does not go beyond its boundaries. The choice of standard packages for the American carrier USPS with prices is offered.

Because the AR mode is available only in the US, we can not test how well the system works and whether it is possible to rotate the box so that the item being sent is positioned diagonally. With ARCore compatible Android flagships in recent years, among them - LG V30, Google Pixel, OnePlus 5, Samsung Galaxy S7 / S8 and newer models. In the near future, we should expect a similar function for the iPhone, but based on ARKit .

With augmented reality, Amazon and IKEA are also experimenting, and Wargaming is showing tanks in "life-sized".
