Samsung will start selling Exynos processors to other companies in 2019
Samsung is negotiating the shipment of Exynos chips by third-party smartphone manufacturers. Among potential customers there is a Chinese ZTE, which still hopes to survive after US sanctions .
What did they tell?
So far, mobile processors Exynos have been used only in branded smartphones of the Korean giant and some gadgets Meizu. If you believe the rumors, the company for a long time did not work with other customers because of the policy of Qualcomm, although the American chipmaker denies everything.
The name of the new partner is planned to be announced in the first half of 2019. In Samsung, the development of platforms deals with the division of System LSI, which is managed by the former top manager of Qualcomm Inap Kang (Inyup Kang). Interestingly, in the semiconductor business, the share of Exynos chipsets is relatively small - 96% of the revenue falls on memory chips.
Samsung is not going to be limited to the mobile segment and is actively developing new directions, including 5G and solutions for cars. So, at the beginning of this year, the announcement of the Exynos Auto line took place.
Nothing has been decided yet
As for the upcoming contract, Samsung is not in a hurry to announce cooperation with ZTE. Negotiations are conducted with all producers on equal terms.
Last week, ZTE suspended the main operations, despite permission to use MediaTek chips, but in this difficult matter, a ray of hope has reappeared. The other day, US President Donald Trump said that they are working with Chinese leader Xi Jinping to resume the company's activities in order to prevent massive cuts in the PRC.
