Apple is preparing to release the iPhone 17 Air in September, which will replace the iPhone 16 Plus model. New data reveals details about the weight and technical characteristics of the device.

Here's What We Know

According to the latest rumours, the iPhone 17 Air will weigh around 146 grams, which is slightly lighter than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, which is heavier. This is due to the use of a lighter 7000 series aluminium body instead of titanium, as in Samsung. The aluminium frame will weigh around 25-30 grams.

The OLED display adds about 35 grams, the main camera with a resolution of 48 megapixels - 5-7 grams, the A19 processor and board - 10-12 grams, as well as the MagSafe module and other components - another 10-12 grams. The glass back panel weighs 15 grams, and the battery weighs about 35 grams.

Apple is likely to use a new silicon-carbon technology (Si/C) for the battery. This should increase its performance. At the same time, it is assumed that the battery capacity will be less than 3000 mAh - approximately 2800-2900 mAh. The body thickness will remain at 5.5 mm - thinner than the Galaxy S25 Edge.

The iPhone 17 Air will feature a 24MP front camera, 8GB of RAM, a 120Hz OLED screen, Always-On, Dynamic Island, Face ID, wireless charging, and global eSIM support. The new product looks like a serious competitor in the mid-range smartphone segment in 2025.

The Galaxy S25 Edge is Samsung's thinnest smartphone in the flagship segment, measuring just 5.8 mm thick, which is 30% thinner than the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It weighs 163 g, which is 25% less than the top-of-the-line model, and is almost the same as the base Galaxy S25.
