U.S. scientists were able to develop technology that allowed them to revive a pig one hour after the animal's death.

What we know

Specialists from Yale University managed to restore blood circulation and internal organs in pigs one hour after death was recorded. As part of an experiment, scientists induced cardiac arrest in pigs that were under anesthesia.

One hour later, the animal's body was hooked up to a special machine that replaced the lungs and heart. The scientists then injected a fluid called OrganEx. It is responsible for stopping cell death, restoring key organs and maintaining tissue integrity.

After six hours some of the organs were completely restored. Further fate of the resurrected pigs is not specified. As for the experiment itself, the results can be useful in transplantology, helping to preserve the donor organs of dead people for transplantation to patients.

In theory, scientists will be able to revive a person and restore the function of internal organs after cardiac arrest. However, there is an issue here. As we noted above, it takes up to six hours for some organs to fully recover. In turn, the human brain receives irreversible damage after a few minutes without oxygen.
