China copied the Su-27, S-300, Patriot and Soviet missile designs to create J-11 fighters, HQ-9 SAMs, DF-21 and DF-26 ballistic missiles
The fact that Chinese craftsmen can copy a phone, a car or even a settlement (Galstat ) is no surprise. But now they have mastered the art of reengineering.
What is known
According to 19FortyFive, China has copied Su-27 fighter jets and S-300 surface-to-air missile systems. They are based on Russian and Soviet designs. The People's Republic of China purchased the equipment from Russia.
Su-27 / J-11
Let's start with the planes. The People's Liberation Army of China uses fighters Shenyang J-11, which are based on Russian aircraft Su-27. The Chinese fighter looks the same as its Russian counterpart.
It is worth noting here that in 1995 China spent $2.5 billion to buy a license to produce 200 units J-11. After the license expired, it is likely that Chinese engineers began to reproduce the components without asking permission from Russia.
Patriot / S-300 / HQ-9 / HQ-9
Between 2003 and 2010, China bought 15 batteries of S-300 surface-to-air missile systems from Russia. Chinese specialists "transformed" them into their own SAMs HQ-9. In this case, the engineers were also inspired by American air defense systems Patriot.
China is also known for its land-based anti-ship launchers DF-21 and DF-26. They are called "aircraft carrier killers." The missiles are based on Soviet designs from the 1970s century. The Chinese were able to improve on Soviet designs and create their own missile that is resistant to enemy interceptors.
