12 Su-27 and Su-30 fighters, 5 Su-24 bombers and 6 Mi-8 helicopters - Russian aviation losses at the airfield in Crimea became known
Here we have the first satellite images, which show what is left of the Russian airfield in Crimea after a series of powerful explosions on August 9.
What we know
So, Russia lost 17 planes and six helicopters in minutes. There is still no exact information about what happened at the airfield. Various options are being put forward, from a strike, possibly by a non-existent operational-tactical missile system "Grim" to smoking in the wrong place.
Note that the Russian side is now in a tug-of-war, so it actively promotes the version that the explosions were the fault of the personnel. Otherwise, russia would have to admit local defeat, because a missile strike means weak air defense, and sabotage does not show counterintelligence in the best light.
In any case, Russian aviation lost 12 fighters at once as a result of the explosions: the Su-27 (eight) and Su-30 (four). Five Su-24 bombers and six Mi-8 helicopters were also destroyed. According to some reports, the IL-20 did not survive either.
Aircraft of the 43rd air regiment were based at the airfield in Crimea. However, on August 9 there were also aircraft of other regiments.
