Apple cuts iPad shipments to keep iPhone 13 production running: wait time reaches 9 weeks

Nikkei Asia reports that iPad tablet shipments remain limited as Apple prioritizes iPhone production.

This conclusion is based on more than two months of analysis of supply data. Nikkei Asia has been tracking delivery times for Apple products in 25 key countries and regions, including the US, China and Japan, since early November. As it turned out, the waiting period for new iPads is now up to 9 weeks. For example, customers who ordered a new iPad (64 GB model) on website Apple January 28, faced with an average wait of about 50 days, slightly better than 55 day delivery time for iPad orders placed in early December.

This is especially noticeable in the Asian market. For example, customers in the Philippines would have to wait up to 63 days if they ordered a 256GB space gray iPad on January 28th. And for consumers in Malaysia, the waiting time is about 54 days.

But the waiting time for new iPhones has been reduced from a month to about 10 days. For the 256 GB iPhone 13 Pro, delivery times have been reduced to around 10 days on average across 25 key countries, according to an analysis by Nikkei Asia. Apple Watch 7 shipping times have also dropped to around 10 days from over a month in the same period.

Recall due to of the global crisis, Apple could not avoid supply problems last year. To deal with the situation, the company has begun redistributing some common components from the iPad lineup to the new iPhone 13 series to ensure uninterrupted production of its flagship product ahead of the holiday season.
