Bloomberg: Apple wanted to add Face ID to last year's iMac, but something went wrong

Rumors that Apple wants to add Face ID to iMac devices have been around for a long time: back in 2020, enthusiasts found hints of this in beta versions macOS Big Sur. Now the issue has been raised again by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman in his latest issue of the Power On newsletter.

When to expect?

According to Mark, Face ID was intended to be added to last year's iMac with an M1 chip, but some reason Apple abandoned this feature. “Face ID was in the plans for the original M1 iMac. Naturally, the iMac is the thickest Mac with a built-in display, since Apple laptops have rather thin screens.Gurman says.

However, the company did not give up on this idea and is still developing an innovation for Mac computers. True, Mark Gurman is sure that the first device with Face ID will definitely not be a MacBook laptop.

“Currently, there is no technology to embed Face ID into thin MacBook displays. So if Face ID shows up on a Mac, I think it will be on an iMac or an external monitor first. Apple is definitely working on it, but time will tell if they launch it, ”says the latest issue of Power On.
